Sydney Report: At the initiative of the organizational team of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Australia branch, a worker conference was held on Sunday, 3/3/2024, at Lakemba Library Hall in Sydney, with the spontaneous presence of hundreds of workers after 27 years. Initially, recitation from the Quran was performed by AKM Monjurul Haque Alomgir, followed by the presentation of national and party songs. The inaugural speech was delivered by the International Affairs Secretary and Editor of the Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Australia Chapter Coordinator, and Election Observer Rashidul Haque.
The event began with a speech of good wishes by the Convener of the Organizational Team of Australia BNP, AFM Towhidul Islam. The program was conducted by the Secretary of the Organizational Team, Mohammad Haydar Ali. As the main guest speaker, another member of the permanent committee of BNP, Dr. Moin Khan, delivered his speech virtually from Bangladesh. Another virtual presence was made by Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon, another member of the permanent committee of BNP.
Among the local BNP leadership, Sarwar Kamal Chowdhury, Selim Sakiyat, Humayun Kabir, and Abida Sultanah were present. From the Australia Youth wing, Mohammad Jahangir Alom, Faruk Khan, Md Mofijal islam Sagar, Mamun Bala, and Mohammad Rafiq were in attendance. Among the voluntary team leaders from Australia, Moshiur Rahman Tuhin, Zahidur Rahman, Khaja Daud Hossain, Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman Labu, Murad Hossain, Wares Mahmud and Ahsan Habib were present.
The workers directly elected the President, General Secretary, Treasurer, and the Organizational Secretary. As the President, AFM Towhidul Islam was elected with 135 votes, and his nearest competitor Ferdaus Ami received 43 votes. Mohammad Haydar Ali was elected as the General Secretary with 123 votes, and his closest competitor Elias Kanchan Shahin received 42 votes. AKM Monjurul Haque Alomgir was elected as the Treasurer with 106 votes, and his closest competitor Khaja Dawood received 75 votes. Ashraful Alam Roni was elected as the Organizational Secretary with 132 votes, and his closest competitor Golam Faruki Nadeem received 59 votes.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. Moniruzzaman, Election Commissioner Khadija Jaman Rupam, and Election Commissioner Engineer Kamrul Islam Shamim announced the results in the presence of the workers, and the atmosphere in the library hall echoed with slogans when the results were declared.”
